Yoga with my Lil niece
Yea & welcome to my 1st entry! Along with this new blog, also comes my new niece: Lia Jean Komitor. Today she is 4 1/2 months old and she is a natural yogini!!
This afternoon I went to Lia's Gymboree class and I was very impressed. The teacher exposed the babies to all sorts of sensory stimulation, eye tracking exercises, musical play & social circles! During this 45 minute class, wouldn't you know that all the kids were doing some sort of yoga: Cobra Poses, Locust Poses, one boy was even doing plank pose - I'm talking a 5 month old!! Really, natural yoginis!!
I am delighted to share the sequence that I learned from Sonia Sumar, Yoga for the Special Child, with Lil Lia. We do foot & ankle rotations, flex & point, knee bends, hip rotations, spinal twists, bridge pose, arm/shoulder stretches & of course massage & relaxation. Each time I do this with her, she is more and more receptive and responsive.
Try it with a newbie in your life & let me know how it goes!!
